MCTXSheriff Arrests Four Suspects in Catalytic Converter Theft

On April 10, 2022, around 11:00 pm, Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a suspicious person call in the 400 block of Rayford Road. A citizen advised they could hear a loud noise coming from underneath a vehicle, and then observed a male get into a grey passenger car and flee the scene.
Deputies were able to identify and locate the suspect vehicle and a subsequent traffic stop was conducted. Upon further investigation, 21-year-old Mason Mushinsky, 20-year-old Jayshaun Brown, 22-year-old Estaban Flores, and 1 juvenile were arrested for Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity and Unlawful Carry of a Weapon. Multiple weapons, various narcotics, and the stolen catalytic converter were all recovered from the vehicle.

Catalytic converter theft is on the rise nationwide. Citizens are encouraged to park in well-lit areas or their garages, if at all possible. Reciprocating saws are typically used to quickly remove the converter. Citizens who hear a saw being used at night, or in a parking lot, should call law enforcement immediately. Thanks to an attentive and diligent citizen making the call, and the swift action of MCSO deputies, four catalytic converter thieves were taken off our streets.
