MCTXSheriff Investigates Animal Cruelty, Makes Arrest

On March 10, 2021, Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to a “Cruelty to an Animal” call in the 15000 block of Queen Elizabeth Court in Montgomery. The responding Deputies learned that a family’s Black Labrador Retriever dog was found injured from a gunshot wound in the owner’s driveway. The owner said that just prior to finding the dog, he and a witness heard what they thought to be a gunshot nearby, and found the family’s pet laying in the driveway shortly after. The owner stated that as he approached the animal, he was met by his next door neighbor (identified as Rolf Meier, a 76 year old male) who reportedly admitted to shooting the animal for defecating in his yard, information that Meier later relayed to the responding Deputies. As the dog’s owner was preparing to transport the dog to a veterinarian, the pet passed away. The animal was transported to the Texas A&M Veterinary Laboratory for a Necropsy to determine the exact manner and cause of death. The necropsy later confirmed that the family pet died as a result of the gunshot.

Investigators with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, along with the assistance of the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office, filed for and received an arrest warrant for Rolf Meier for Animal Cruelty (non-livestock), a Third Degree Felony, with a $3,000 dollar bond.

On May 7, 2021, Investigators and Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office executed the arrest warrant for Rolf Meier at his residence. He was placed in custody, and transported to the Montgomery County Jail without incident.
