On December 18, 2020, at about 9:00 pm, Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 23000 block of Forest Green Lane in New Caney, Texas in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, Deputies found a Hispanic male with multiple gunshot wounds in the yard of the residence. Deputies detained a 34-year-old Hispanic male from the residence who is believed to have shot the other male. Medical personnel arrived on the scene and continued life-saving measures but unfortunately, the male succumbed to his wounds.

Detectives with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene and began their investigation. Detectives learned that the deceased male victim was in a relationship with the ex-wife of the shooting suspect. The ex-wife and the victim came to the suspect’s house to pick up her three children when an altercation ensued between the suspect and the victim. Based on the evidence collected and interviewed conducted, Detectives with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office arrested the shooting suspect, Randy Estrada, for Murder and transported him to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Jail.

The victim is identified as 25-year-old Luis Antonio Ortiz. This is still an active investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family affected by this tragic incident.
