MCTXSheriff Auto Theft Task Force makes Felony Arrest
On January 4, 2019, Detectives with Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Auto Theft Task Force obtained information in reference to a stolen vehicle being listed for sale on Craig’s List. During their investigation, the Task Force verified the vehicle was reported stolen through the Houston Police Department. The Task Force arranged a meeting at a location on West Davis Street in Conroe, Texas. The 2017 Nissan Frontier arrived at the address as agreed and the Auto Theft Task Force, along with Montgomery County Swat, K- 9 and Air Wing units took the driver into custody. The driver was identified as Larry Wayne Wagstaff (10/18/1955). Larry is charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Forgery of a Government Document, and Possession of a Controlled Substance, and is being held on a $6000 bond.
The Auto Theft Task Force and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office stress the importance of diligence when purchasing a vehicle from an internet source. Social media makes it easier for criminals to sell stolen vehicles to unsuspecting persons.
