MCTXSheriff Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting Incident in Montgomery

On July 5, 2024, at approximately 3:45 p.m., Deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office responded to a crash involving an intoxicated driver near the 7000 block of Forest Hills Drive in Montgomery, Texas. Upon arrival, Deputies attempted to locate the male suspect, who had fled into a heavily wooded area to evade capture. During the search, the suspect emerged from hiding and brandished what appeared to be a rifle, pointing it at the Deputies. In response to the perceived threat, a Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Deputy discharged his firearm multiple times. The suspect subsequently dropped the weapon and was taken into custody. It was later determined that the suspect had not sustained any injuries from the shots fired and that the rifle was, in fact, a pellet gun.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit, along with Crime Scene Investigators, are currently on the scene conducting a thorough investigation. The suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Tobias Sangster of Montgomery. Sangster has been charged with Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant and Driving While Intoxicated.
