AUTO THEFT TASK FORCE (ATTF)
The Auto Theft Task Force (ATTF) is commanded by Lieutenant John Sanchez, who is assisted by Sergeant Kelley Smith. The Task Force is comprised of peace officers from 5 agencies. The mission of the Auto Theft Task Force is to investigate and recover stolen items including both motorized and non-motorized vehicles and trailers which were stolen in the Task Force's operational area or are found in the area after being stolen. The Task Force's current area of responsibility includes the counties of Angelina, Grimes, Madison, Montgomery, Polk, San Jacinto, Trinity, and Walker.
Trailer Inspection Information
If you are trying to register your trailer as homemade in Montgomery County you are required to get it inspected by a detective within the Montgomery County Auto Theft Task Force. There’s no fee for this service you must bring all receipts of materials used or a bill of sale. All trailers brought in for inspections must comply with all state laws including safety chains, lights, registrations or temporary registrations. A temporary registration Tag can be obtained at the Montgomery County Tax Assessor.
VIN Verification Information
If you are bringing your vehicle from another state or importing it into the United States, your vehicle must pass a Texas Vehicle Safety Inspection and visual verification of the vehicle identification number (VIN) by a detective within the Montgomery County Auto Theft Task Force. There’s no fee for this service. You must bring the Vehicle along with the documentation listed below.
The Montgomery County Auto Theft Task Force conducts 68 A inspections on Tuesday of each week. The inspections will be conducted by appointment only. Time slots will be available as follows: 8:30 am, 9:00 am, 9:30 am, 10:00 am, 10:30 am, 1:00 pm, 1:30 pm, 2:00 pm, and 2:30 pm. Appointments must be made no later than 3:00 pm on the Monday before the inspection.

At this time we can only accept appointments from Montgomery County ATTF coverage area residents only. The coverage area includes Montgomery County, Grimes County, Walker County, San Jacinto County, Angelina County, Polk County and Trinity County.
When you arrive, the necessary forms will be located outside the front door. Please take a form and fill it out. Wait in your vehicle until the officer comes to conduct your inspection. If you can’t make your appointment, you must call to reschedule. If you are 5 minutes or more late, you will have to reschedule your appointment.
