68A VIN inspection

VEHICLE AND TRAILER INSPECTION INFORMATION 

If you are needing a 68A VIN Verification completed on a vehicle or trailer, it must be inspected by a Montgomery County Auto Theft Taskforce Detective.

If you are trying to register a Homemade or Shop-built trailer, upon inspection you will need to bring the trailer along with a bill of sale if it was purchased or receipts showing you built the trailer.

If you are trying to register a Vehicle or Trailer with an assigned VIN number, you will need to bring the vehicle or trailer along with proof of ownership including a title or bill of sale.  If the vehicle or trailer has been imported to the US from another country, you will also need to provide registration, entry, and customs declaration forms.

All vehicles and trailers must comply with state laws and display current or temporary registration.  Temporary registration tags may be obtained from the Montgomery County Tax Assessors Office.

 
APPOINTMENTS
The Montgomery County Auto Theft Task Force conducts 68 A inspections on Tuesday of each week. The inspections will be conducted by Appointment Only. Time slots will be available as follows:  8:30 am, 9:00 am, 9:30 am, 10:00 am, 10:30 am, 1:00 pm, 1:30 pm, 2:00 pm, and 2:30 pm.

APPOINTMENTS ARE WEATHER PERMITTING.  IF IT IS RAINING, INSPECTIONS WILL NOT BE COMPLETED AND YOU WILL NEED TO RESCHEDULE.

Inspections will only be completed at our office as we do not make house calls for this service.

At this time we can only accept appointments from Montgomery County ATTF coverage area residents only.  The coverage area includes Montgomery County, Grimes County, Walker County, Madison, San Jacinto County, Angelina County, Polk County, Liberty, and Trinity County.

When you arrive, the necessary forms will be located outside the front door.  Please take a form and fill it out.  Wait in your vehicle until the officer comes to conduct your inspection.  If you can’t make your appointment, you must call to reschedule.  If you are 5 minutes or later, you will have to reschedule your appointment.
