Texas resident since 1967, Major Tim W. Cannon attended the University of Houston, majoring in Criminal Justice. Active in sports, he then pursued his lifelong dreams of a law enforcement career and graduated from the Harris County Sheriff’s Academy in June of 1980. After working briefly for the Sheriff’s Department, he furthered his career in private industry and then joined the Harris County Pct. 4 Constables department beginning in 1987. Continuing his law enforcement education, he received his Master Peace officer certification and was promoted through the ranks to Patrol Corporal in 1990, Patrol Sergeant in 1992, Patrol Lieutenant in 1998, and Patrol Captain in 2005. Various field assignments and specialized training included Investigations, Traffic Division, Field Training, Felony Apprehension, School Resource, Accident Investigation and Marine Rescue. Cannon was responsible for oversight of the Cy-Fair ISD Contract Deputy Program for 10 years. He received the department “Officer of the year” award in 1994, “Outstanding Supervisor” award in 2004, “Outstanding Deputy Constable” of the year for Texas awarded by State Association for 2005-2006, “Outstanding Department Supervisor” in 2011, and “Outstanding Department Supervisor” in 2014.

Major Cannon graduated from Bill Blackwood Constable Command College in 2002, Leadership Command College in 2013 and also graduated from the prestigious 236th session of the FBI National Academy in 2009. Upon his return from the FBI National Academy, he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief for Harris County Constable Pct. 4 in 2009. Then, Asst. Chief Cannon received (CLC) Constable Leadership designation by the Bill Blackwood Law enforcement management institute in 2010.  After serving over 28 years at the Harris County Pct. 4 Constables Office, he was promoted to the rank of Chief Deputy at the Harris County Sheriff’s office where he oversaw all department operations and functions. Cannon retired from Harris County as Chief Deputy with over 30 plus years of law enforcement experience and was proud to have served the citizens of Harris County Texas for so many years.

On January 1, 2017, Cannon was hired to serve as a lieutenant for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, overseeing the Organized Crime Unit and MOCOnet (HIDTA) Narcotics group. On March 2, 2019, Cannon accepted a position as Captain of the Administrative Services Division with responsibility over the Media Team, Human Resources, Recruiting, COMPSTAT, Crime Stoppers, Policy Review, Reserves, and the Chaplain Corps. He was promoted to the rank of Major on August 7th, 2021

He and his wife currently live in Montgomery County Texas enjoying traveling, golfing, and working on their country property. Their son serves as a Crime Scene Investigator at the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
