MCTXSheriff Investigates Fatal ATV Accident

On Sunday, November 15, 2020, at about 7:00 pm, Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the Creekside Offroad Park located at 13580 US Highway 59 in Splendora, Texas in reference to an ATV accident. Upon arrival, they learned a 4-year-old male was riding on an ATV with his father and juvenile brother. While riding, the father drove the ATV down an embankment. The ATV began to tip over causing the 4-year-old to be ejected from the ATV, and it ultimately landed on top of the 4-year-old, trapping the child underneath it.

The father of the child attempted to get the ATV off the child but had difficulty due to the weight of the vehicle and the soft ground around it. The father was eventually able to remove his son from under the ATV and immediately began life saving measures.

Deputies arrived at the scene of the accident and transported the child to the parking lot to meet with MCHD Medics. First Responders continued life saving measures to the child, however, the child succumbed to his injures. The father was transported to Kingwood ER due to injuries received during the accident.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Homicide / Violent Crimes Detectives responded to the scene, along with Prosecutors with the Montgomery District Attorney’s Office to conduct the investigation, which is still underway. The father is currently cooperating with Detectives and Prosecutors, and at this time no criminal charges have been filed.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office extends our condolences to the family of the deceased child. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all involved.
