MCTXSheriff SWAT Assists with Robbery Investigation

On May 19, 2020 at about 4:30 pm, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office SWAT was requested to an address on Canyon Oak PL, in Spring, TX in reference to a possible barricaded suspect. Harris County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crime Offenders Task Force Investigators were attempting to serve a warrant for a suspect wanted in connection to an aggravated robbery that occurred at a Pizza Hut near the intersection of Kuykendahl and Louetta on May 17, 2020. In that incident, two males attempted to rob the location and shot an employee multiple times in the process. The employee survived the attack, and is currently in critical, but stable condition.

Investigators were able to identify the suspects and captured one on May 18, 2020 in Harris County. However, information on the second suspect led investigators to the Canyon Oak address in Spring. While attempting to serve the arrest warrant on the second individual, Investigators approaching the residence heard a single gunshot from inside the home.

Investigators from Harris County held the scene and summoned the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team to assist. Once law enforcement assets arrived on scene, it was discovered that the suspect, a 19-year-old male, had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The aggravated robbery investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. A collaborative investigation into the circumstances surrounding the self-inflicted shooting is being investigated by Detectives from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Violent Crimes unit, as well Detectives with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. The name of the deceased suspect is being withheld at this time, pending notification of the next of kin.
