MCTXSheriff Cautions Against Fake News Stories

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is aware of false and misleading information posted by an online blogger indicating that Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough has instituted martial law for Montgomery County. This is absolutely untrue. During a time of local and national crisis, The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has had to use valuable resources to field an ill-advised April Fool’s joke.

Please be cautious of sharing or posting information right now with shocking/alarming headlines. There is so much unverified, unreliable information being used both as masked satire, and "YOU NEED TO KNOW" information. This shared content only fuels more panic and anxiety in people, and causes our already overtaxed first responder networks to work that much harder to undo the messes created.

We ask the public to verify the validity of a post of this nature with your local law enforcement agency or governmental entity before sharing it online. As a reminder, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has a free app found in the APP Store and Google Play store. Through this app, we are able to share timely and accurate information with our community. You can also follow the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
